If you haven't guessed yet, one of my books is now available in paperback! (No, it's not The Scroll. I'm still working on that one)
My book Defenders of Light: Hunter's Quarry is now available for both Kindle and in print. I self-published Hunter's Quarry through Lulu.com, which is a great place to self-publish if you've got formatting know-how and cover art available. If you have all that, then it costs nothing to publish except your sweat, tears, and time. (If you don't have all that, you can still publish, and Lulu will help you, but it will take oodles of money that I, as a starving college student, do not have. Of course, I don't necessarily have time, but I take it from other things...like sleep and homework study time)
To be honest, it was the cover art that held me back the longest. I formatted the book fine, got an ISBN, etc., but I had a sneaking suspicion that my original cover for the Kindle version of Hunter's Quarry would not look very good in print. Like I mentioned before, I don't have the money to hire someone to do cover art. So what's a girl gonna do without good cover art? Make her own, of course!
The only problem with that is that I'm not the best artist in the world. The only art classes I've taken was one in high school and one in college for elementary school teachers (about that second class: you only need to know how to draw a circle, and not a very good one at that, and you'll pass). I draw all right, but only for myself to see and maybe some family members. So how do I accommodate for my drawing ineptitude? I cheat.
My parents bought me this cool art set a few years ago with oil paints, acrylic paints, and a couple of canvases. I draw an alright cartoony dragon head, except I always mess up the snout and top of the head, so I painted a canvas black and added blue and white lines to make dragon eyes, "eyebrows," and parts of the snout and jaw line. Then I stopped. Yes, I stopped. I didn't draw an entire face, or a body, or anything else. And you know what? It's the best painting I've ever done.
So compare for yourself: which one is better--the old cover, or the new?
Old

New
Yep, that's right. The new.
Anyway, travel on over to http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/ElisaP if you want to buy my book. Or if you just want to bask in my glory (heheh). I'm pretty sure you can buy the book now, though I haven't actually gotten my proof yet to check for errors. (I think I have to check my proof before it goes to Amazon.com, not before you can buy it on Lulu.com)
Have fun, and I'll be posting sometime...soon...maybe...
